Southwest Showcase Inc. - History
The Southwest Showcase Group was originally formed in 1988 for the purpose of bringing quality entertainment with a focus on Canadian grown talent to Deloraine and Southwest Manitoba.
The founding members of the Showcase Committee consisted of:
Chair: Gary Olson
Secretary: Anne Edwards
Treasurer: Donna Todd
Committee Members: Julie Nestibo, Marg Whetter, Bev Tweed, Audrey McArthur, Karen Spence
Hilt Wallace, Yvonne Laval, Jean Agnew, Al Dickie
The first performance sponsored by Southwest Showcase was: "Schubert Alley" on October 12, 1988
Some Highlight Events:
1989 - "The Mousetrap" , the first of many consecutive MTC performances.
1992 - RCMP Concert Band plays to 800 school students at the Arena and another 600 adults in the evening.
From the proceeds of this performance - $1634. was donated to the Hospital Equipment Fund.
1993-94 - Showcase Season Tickets ( 277 ) sell out in 4 hours.
The Showcase has sponsored children's entertainment at the Deloraine Summer Fair as well as partnered with the
Festival Committee to host a number of Westman Youth Choir Concerts. The group has also contributed to improvements
at the theatre over the years including the addition of dressing rooms, lighting and a sound system.
The first Showcase Concert Series consisted of 4 performances with tickets selling for $30.00 / adult and $20.00 / student.
Our 32nd Season Concert Pass was priced at $100 with a student rate of $60.00 for a 6 show series.
